Subscriptions

With our Subscriptions our readers (you) can follow the site at their own convenience. The problem with the Internet is that it is quite large, there’s quite a few websites and it’s near to impossible to visit your favorite website and see if anything is updated on them.

So, the little green men who build the Internet for us came up with a few ways to tackle that challenge.

RSS Feed

According to Wikipedia RSS “is a family of Web feed formats used to publish frequently updated works—such as blog entries, news headlines, audio, and video—in a standardized format”.
What you need is a Reader, this can a program running on your desktop or an online tool. Every article we post can be read by the RSS reader, when you open your reader, you can get all the latest news, from any site that uses RSS.
It really is quite fantastic.

Newsletter

According to Wikipedia a Newsletter “is a regularly distributed publication generally about one main topic that is of interest to its subscribers
That’s great, we will send the newsletter occasionally, not regularly. It will contain news about dates we set for volunteering, a sum up of our important blog posts and whatever we deem important enough to put in the newsletter.
If you don’t want to subscribe to RSS or follow us on Twitter but do want to stay in touch, the newsletter is ideal.

Facebook

According to Wikipedia Facebook is “a social networking website that is operated and privately owned by Facebook, Inc.”
Wow, so now you know everything there is to know about Facebook, not quite. But, here is a more in depth (video) explanation.
Four Elements House has a “Fanpage” on Facebook, not a complete personal profile. On the page other Facebookers can leave comments, upload foto’s/video’s and find other FEH fans. Isn’t this fun?
You do need a Facebook account and all additions to the Fanpage will show up on your homepage.

Twitter

According to Wikipedia Twitter “is a social networking and micro-blogging service that enables its users to send and read other users’ updates known as tweets.”
So, that’s what we do, we post status updates and short messages on Twitter. You do need your own Twitter account if you want to Follow us. But, once you have one, you can tweet yourself, and we can in turn follow you, isn’t that fantastic.

Email

According to Wikipedia Email “is any method of creating, transmitting, or storing primarily text-based human communications with digital communications systems”.
Pffff.., I don’t know what that means. All I know is that when you subscribe to the Email thingy, all posts will be send via email directly to your mailbox. This is as easy as it gets. No need to go to the website, open the RSS Reader or wait for the Newsletter.
All you need to do is wait until it says “Inbox (1)”.

So, choose your poison and stay in touch.

After posting the previous post I received an email from Dean Gregory over at The Power Collective. My worry about RidgeBlade is that it might be expensive. I let Dean explain otherwise in his own words: whilst we cannot know the exact cost of the RidgeBlade units until we have finalised our ...

The question still stands.., can we get off the grid. In our previous post we concluded that Solar Power is a real possibility. All it really takes is money.., a whole bunch of it.., but as far as the authorities are concerned.., it should not be a problem. Granted, in wintertime we ...

Off the Grid, is it possible?

No, well at least not for us, not at first. The problem is that we will be needing a reasonable amount of electricity. Because we will work from home using computers, which means a constant usage of power. So what is the problem you might say, through a couple of solar panels on ...
