A Good 2009
To all readers, followers, dreamers, realists, builders, environmentalist, littlegreen men and all the generally good people of this planet, I wish you a good, healthy, funny, active and eventful 2009. There, got it covered, I hope.
Anyhoo. Just wanted to post a happy new year message and put our plans for 2009 on paper (or on the web).
Plans
First thing will be finishing up on the land purchase. Although everything is OK and signed, the land still isn’t officially ours.
Then for the first half of the year Lotte (our awesome architect) will graduate in which time the design of the house will be done. This in itself is quite a challenge and will be quite an achievement. But we’ll get there!
That’s the first huge step, the second huge step has to be the building permit. Although we do not foresee problems, one can never now. As soon as we have the necessary drawings we’ll apply. We hope to finish this around 1st October, at the latest.
In the meantime we’ll continue to learn french and find suppliers for our building materials. This includes everything from wooden beams, stone for the walls, rooftiles, solarpanels, windmill, etc.
You are reading correctly, there will be no house building this year.
2010 will be the year for that.
And what a year that’s going to be, can’t wait.

I watched a grand designs last night and they had an earth ship on it and I thought this was amazing. Will you be hiring people to help build or will you be looking for volunteers?
thanks

hey Vicky,
When you read my What to Build post, you’ll notice that an Earthship is no longer the plan.
But we still are building a sustainable autonomous home. This will happen next year.
This blog will end soon and we will move to a new one (don’t know the name yet, hard to come up with something). And yes, we will be hiring (but only specifically skilled people) and yes we will definitely be looking for volunteers. We hope (and plan) to start building in april 2010. And it will be an awesome project. All I can say is, Stay Tuned (subscribe to the RSS Feed).
cheers

Hello, I stumbled upon your post whilst looking for earthships being built needing volunteers for labor intensive ( not necicerily skills orientated work. ) I am aware that this build is no longer an earth ship but if you are still in need of volunteers in the year of my traveling, 2010, then give me an email, or equaly helpful if you are aware of any other builds of this nature needing volunteers please let me know.

Hey Moon, I’ll put you on the list. I don’t know of any builds (in Europe) at the moment. I know there’s talk, but nothing solid.
If everything goes as planned for us then we will be building in 2010, throughout the spring, summer and fall. Any help would be greatly appreciated and I recon there’s always something to be done.
So, whenever you stumble into Belgium in 2010, drop by.
cheers

Hi, Again I’m another person interested in volunteering for building in 2009/10 with any earthships awaiting construction in the summer, early autumn. I have some basic skills from constructing a insulated room in my basement, but if there is any work going on then give us an email for any builds which require volunteers. Cheers
